What We’re Looking For

Minimum 1 year veterinary assistant experience (required)
Confident animal handling in a fast-paced setting
Strong communication and critical thinking skills
Someone who takes initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do
A person who wants to help build a sustainable, community-focused veterinary business
Evening/weekend/holiday availability required (we believe in fair rotation)
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a clinical environment, including bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, moving from room to room, and sitting; may be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time

Essential Job Functions

The following are the essential duties and responsibilities required for this position. The candidate must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

🐾 Patient Care & Medical Support

Assist doctors and veterinary technicians with appointments and prepare patients for surgery and minor procedures.
Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytology samples.
Provide assistance during radiology procedures.
Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Obtain patient weights.
Document changes in a patient’s condition and vital signs appropriately in the medical record and notify the veterinarian or veterinary technician of any unusual medical or behavioral concerns.
Feed, exercise, groom, or bathe animals as prescribed by the attending veterinarian or requested by the client.
Assist with patient transport throughout the hospital and ensure patients are housed safely and comfortably.

💬 Client Service & Communication

Check patients and clients in and out of the hospital, ensuring accurate patient and client information is collected and documented.
Process client payments accurately and provide receipts and other documentation as required.
Assist with scheduling appointments and responding to general client inquiries as needed.
Communicate effectively with all members of the medical and client service teams to support efficient patient care and hospital workflow.
Communicate with clients in a compassionate and professional manner in accordance with hospital policies, including providing updates on their pet when directed by the medical team and assisting with general questions.
Release patients back into the client’s care as directed, ensuring discharge instructions and belongings are provided and that patients are clean and appropriately groomed prior to release.

🧼 Hospital Care, Cleaning & Equipment

Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the hospital, including kennels and runs, treatment areas, exam rooms, reception areas, and the surgery suite.
Perform laundry duties throughout the shift, including washing, drying, folding, and restocking towels, blankets, surgical linens, and other hospital laundry.
Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, exam rooms, treatment areas, and other patient care areas according to hospital protocols.
Assist with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of medical equipment, including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia equipment, and other tools essential to daily operations.
Clean, wrap, sterilize, and properly store surgical instruments and packs as required.

📦 Supplies & Hospital Operations

Ensure supplies are adequately stocked and readily available in exam rooms, treatment areas, and other designated areas of the hospital.
Monitor inventory levels and notify the appropriate team member when supplies are running low.
Assist with opening and closing duties, including cleaning, stocking, laundry, and preparing the hospital for the next shift.
Perform other duties as assigned by veterinarians, veterinary technicians, receptionists, and hospital leadership to support the smooth and efficient daily operation of the hospital.
